Duties

Under the supervision of the Deputy Economic Counselor, the incumbent provides essential support to Political/Economic Section, provides daily written reports on important economic and commercial issues.  Responsible for developing systems and work procedures to streamline the flow of information in the section.  Develops, plans, and manages trade promotion.  Suggests contacts, develops itineraries, and arranges appointments for visitors from the Department of State and other government agencies.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:  Five (5) years of experience in business, commercial activities or government-related regulatory work is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:  A thorough knowledge of Sudan’s economic, political, and social structure and institutions, including clan systems, is required. Must have thorough knowledge of the economic and political relationships of key decision-makers in Sudan society and government.  Must be familiar with the national priorities of the host country and familiar with existing economic and political processes and mechanisms to affect change.  Must have a comprehensive understanding of U.S. foreign policy and assistance objectives.

Education Requirements:

B.Sc. or B.A. in Economics, Business, Communications, Political Science is required.

LANGUAGE:  

English: Level IV (Fluent, speaking, reading and writing) is required. (This may be tested)

Arabic: Level IV (Fluent, speaking, reading and writing) is required. (This may be tested)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

Good communication skills and the ability to interact with people more senior in authority and status of different backgrounds are required.  Strong analytical and English language writing skills, the ability to work independently, and initiative are essential.  Must maintain an extensive range of high-level contacts with Government of Sudan representatives and important economic, political, and civil society actors.  Must provide and inform economic and political reporting with detachment and objectivity, and effectively communicate with contacts and Embassy leadership.  Ability to work with statistics required.

Agency Benefits:
