Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. Context:

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM), IOM Sudan, the incumbent will be responsible for providing information to the CoM on national policy and political developments affecting the work of the organization in Sudan; and assisting the CoM in liaison with governmental and other national counterparts. In particular, he/she will:


Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Chief of Mission in maintaining liaison with governmental authorities, diplomatic missions, national and international institutions, aimed at coordinating and promoting new activities, and facilitating implementation of ongoing activities.
  2. Assist the Chief of Mission in keeping him/her appraised of key political issues and developments within the government pertaining to the programmatic implementation and planning of the Mission.
  3. Provide information to the Chief of Mission on developments in Sudan in the field of migration and related governmental policies affecting the work of the Organization in order to help construct the programmatic strategy of IOM in Sudan as well as adjust implementation of on-going programmes and planned activities.
  4. Support the project managers and Regional Coordinators and other field staff in all states of Sudan, to facilitate IOM’s ongoing and planned programmes and activities.
  5. Establish and maintain working relationship with local and regional governmental authorities and draw up, when required, Memorandum of Understanding with programme-related government ministries and other potential partners.

  7. Work with the governmental authorities, at both federal and state level to coordinate implementation of IOM’s programmatic activities as appropriate
  8. Assist the Chief of Mission in enhancing IOM partnership with government counterparts, civil society groups, academia and other national organizations to facilitate appropriate support and protection to the vulnerable migrants and communities and adherence to national, regional and international migration frameworks, including the Global Compact for Migration and the High Council for Migration.
  9. Undertake in-country duty travel relating to liaison with counterparts, and problemsolving, as requested.
  10. Compile, analyze and present information on government policy and the political environment.
  11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience


Education
• Master’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Business
Administration, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience. or
• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience


Experience
• Experience in the field of migration issues including operational and field experience, project development / management.
• Experience in liaising with governmental and diplomatic authorities as well as with national, and international institutions.
• Knowledge and experience of regional issues an advantage.

Languages
Fluency in English & Arabic
