Duties

Incumbent is the senior Local Employee Staff in the Visa Unit managing the Unit’s LE Staff, performing operational duties as needed. The Unit includes Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV), Immigrant Visa (IV), refugee/asylee follow-to join visa (V92/V93), and other special visa types. Incumbent supervises Local Employee Staff:  Manages the training and development of junior Local Employee Staff, advises, recommends approval of leave, and evaluates staff performance.  Keeps track of consular outreach publications and oversees maintenance and updates of the Embassy’s visa web page. Incumbent processes NIV and IV of unique complexities, requiring legal and operational knowledge, participates in, and represents the Consular Section at, mission-wide meetings and events.Back to top

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:  

Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in work involving the application of complex regulatory material (such as in consular, migration, immigration, or refugee work) along with extensive public contact is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

 Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and procedures found in the Foreign Affairs Manual (FAM) and other special department instructions. A thorough knowledge of local laws and practices.Education Requirements:

University, College studies is required.Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: 

English: Level IV (Fluent, speaking, reading and writing) is required. (This may be tested)

Arabic: Level IV (Fluent, speaking, reading and writing) is required. (This may be tested)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: T

  • Ability to supervise, train, and counsel Local Employee Staff subordinates in the Visa Unit.
  • Ability to manage, plan, and organize the work of LE Staff in the Visa Unit.
  • Ability to complete the full range of operational Local Employee Staff activities in the Visa Unit.
  • Ability to exercise good time management to complete task timely and under pressure.
  • Ability to exercise initiative in identifying problems or issues, and develop and implement solutions to them.
  • Ability to exercise tact and good judgment in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, using good judgment in evaluating evidence and applying complex regulatory material correctly.
  • Ability to identify and develop potential government contacts when requested.

COVID-19 Requirements for Eligible Family Members


As required by Executive Order 14043, Eligible Family Members who will be employed on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Temporary Appointment (TEMP) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee’s duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law.
