Background:

Search for Common Ground (Search) is an international NGO with the overall mission to change the way the world deals with conflict— away from adversarial approaches and toward collaborative solutions. In Sudan, Search, in partnership with Sudanese NGOs Badya Centre for Integrated Development (Badya), Um Serdiba Association for Development (Um Serdiba), Paralegal’s Association (PASS), Human Security Initiative Organisation (MAMAN), and ElSharq Centre for Culture (ECC), are implementing a 30-month project titled “Maa Baaad Nanmo”– We Grow Together: Supporting Sudanese CSOs to improve multi-sectoral development for vulnerable women and girls, which has the overall goal to increase the capacity, networks and opportunities of Sudanese CSOs to improve vulnerable women and girls’ access to multi-sectoral development in the states of West Kordofan, South Kordofan, Blue Nile, Al Qadarif and Kassala.

Assignment:

As part of this project, Search is seeking to recruit a cartoonist to develop a 24-page comic book that will provide information and on women’s rights and gender inequalities. In particular, this comic book will center around the constitutional document and will emphasize the importance of women’s rights and the ways in which gender inequality is being addressed in the constitutional document. 

Deliverables & Deadlines:

  • Completion of consultations: February 15, 2021
  • Completion of the script: February 28, 2021
  • Submission of the first draft of the comic book: April 15, 2021
  • Pre-testing of the comic book: April 30, 2021
  • Completion of the comic book: May 15, 2021

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience as a cartoonist
  • Experience developing comic books for NGOs, preferably INGOs; is preferred
  • Knowledge of local Sudanese context in West Kordofan, South Kordofan, Blue Nile, Al Qadarif and Kassala is an asset
  • Fluent in spoken and written Arabic is preferred
  • Proficiency in English (spoken) is preferred
  • Flexibility and collaborative team spirit
