Finance Assistant (National Position) Advertisement

NRC resumed operations in Sudan in 2020, providing humanitarian assistance, protection, and durable solutions. Our country programme integrates all of NRC’s six core competencies (camp management, education, ICLA, livelihoods, shelter, and WASH), and provides a rapid response capacity (including for the recent refugee emergency in eastern Sudan), and thematic capacities for cash and markets-based approaches, advocacy, digital modes of assistance, and co-leading various technical and strategic coordination platforms.

The following is a brief description of the role:

Generic responsibilities

  1. Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  2. Assist with the implementation of the Finance function portfolio according to the NRC Finance, Accounting and Compliance policies
  3. Prepare and develop status reports as required by Field Office Coordinator
  4. Communicate and arrange meetings with suppliers as requested
  5. Scan and file documents as per the securing and storing documentation policy
  6. Promote and share ideas for improvement of the Finance Function
  7. Ensure proper filing of documents
  8. Ensure proper coordination with Area Office in El Fasher and maintain availability to respond to requests from the Finance or Support Coordinator.

Specific responsibilities

  1. Take day to day responsibility of managing petty cash and cash box
  2. Take day to day responsibility of managing cheque payments if required
  3. Maintain up to date records and project accounts on the system to ensure that timely, accurate and appropriate information is available and reported
  4. Preparation of payment requests for cash and cheques and ensure timely settlement of all undisputed invoices
  5. Assist Field Coordinator to perform cash and bank reconciliations
  6. Ensure daily, weekly, monthly and periodic cash count is done
  7. Assist Field Coordinator/Area Manager in tracking advance and ensure that clearance of advance is done on time
  8. Ensure that all support documents are complete and accurate before the financial transaction is done
  9. Take a leading role in the scanning and online archiving of transaction supporting documents

  • Knowledge of cash-based interventions and market-based programmes is an advantage
  • Service minded, with strong organizational and planning skills
  • Preferably previous working experience in Kutum
  • Preferably experience with start-up missions
  • Good cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Highly approachable, trustworthy and confidential
  • Attention to details, problem solving skill, excellent time management skills
