NRC resumed operations in Sudan in 2020, providing humanitarian assistance, protection, and durable solutions. Our country programme integrates all of NRC’s six core competencies (camp management, education, ICLA, livelihoods, shelter, and WASH), and provides a rapid response capacity (including for the recent refugee emergency in eastern Sudan), and thematic capacities for cash and markets-based approaches, advocacy, digital modes of assistance, and co-leading various technical and strategic coordination platforms.
Role Specific Information
The purpose of the officer position is day to day implementation of the Camp Coordination and Camp Management Project.
The following is a brief description of the role.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
- Implement delegated CM project portfolio according to plan of action
- Day to day follow of progress in project implementation
- Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
- Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures.
- Coordinate with relevant partners in Camps, including supporting regular coordination mechanisms with service providers and community structures in sites.
- Support the establishment of community committees / governance mechanisms in the sites, ensuring participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups
- Coordinate assistants and site facilitators to conduct community sensitization, awareness and mobilization activities to improve information sharing and encourage communities’ participation.
- Actively lead and participate in emergency and regular needs’ assessments including regular service monitoring exercises in sites.
- Lead the identification of site and infrastructure improvement needs and supervise care and maintenance activities.
- Ensure Complaints Received by the community are documented, communicated with the Team Leaders and ensure follow-ups being held. Ensure communication with communities on the outcome of the referrals
- Supervise, train and develop Technical Assistants reporting to the Officer
- Ensure and support M&E activities in your field location
- Support the CM Project coordinator in the documentation and lessons learned to capture program performance
- In coordination with the CM Project coordinator, represent NRC in coordination meetings with local authorities and NGOs in El Fasher
- Gap fill as site facilitators or CM technical assistant when needed
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Experience from working in camp-based humanitarian projects, or of community engagement practices in humanitarian situations
- Computer literacy in word processing and spreadsheets is required
- Familiarity with GPS, GIS and Google Earth is strongly desirable
- Must be able to work under pressure
- Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- University degree in a relevant subject, ideal
- At least 2 years’ experience in a project implementation position in an NGO or UN agency, ideal
- Good communication and external representation skills;
- Good capacity to plan, prioritize, and multitask;
- Excellent team-working skills
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to cope with stressful situations;
- Good computer literacy, including MS Office (Word and Excel);
- Knowledge of multi-sectoral humanitarian response, including Protection, WASH, Shelter, protection, emergency distribution is a benefit
- Experience in CCCM programming is strongly preferred
