Eligibility criteria
Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.
Description of task
Under the general supervision of the Monitoring Officer and the technical guidance of the Chief Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, the UN Volunteer will provide support in a range of programme and coordination issues, both in the field and at country office level. Her/his tasks will include but will not be limited to the following:
- Ensure that the performance of UNICEF assisted programmes undertaken by government and other implementing partners is systematically monitored to ensure that the activities are regularly tracked and expected changes are measured and recorded. Joint monitoring visits with the participation of relevant partners are encouraged;
- Ensure data for key Programme and management indicators reports are collected, analyzed and made available to the field office management;
- Compile/synthesise the data and provide data/information to the Section and national partners to facilitate planning; assess the impact of the programmes and policies; and report on the progress being made;
- Support the Sector/Sub-Sector and other coordination meetings in aspects related to information management; and contribute to strengthen management of sector information databases and systems; produce and maintain relevant information products, including Sector/Sub-sector information reports, databases, basic and thematic maps; and support the preparation of periodic reports on sector activities at national and state level as required;
- Support the Programme Monitoring Officer to ensure the technical leadership of UNICEF in obtaining key information on affected populations by emergency and disasters and participate in assessment missions including interagency missions
- Support the monitoring of high frequency humanitarian indicators with a specific focus on using routine and administrative data collection for better preparedness, targeting and coordination of effective humanitarian response.
Support the Programme Monitoring Officer for the management of the monthly/quarterly monitoring plan and ensuring the use of e-tools for planning, implementation and follow up of field visits.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent
Education – Additional Comments:
- Bachelor degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Demography, Statistics, or a related technical field; candidates with sociology, anthropology background may be considered if matched with strong analytical skills.
Required experience: 24 Months
Experience remark:
At least two years of professional work experience in programme monitoring and/or research and data analysis.
Language skills:
- English(Mandatory), Level – Fluent
- Arabic(Mandatory), Level – Fluent
Area of expertise: Development programme management, Monitoring and evaluation.
Area of expertise details:
- proven analytical skills in the area of data collection and analysis;
- experience of working in an international organization working in Sudan is desirable;
- Profeciency in the use of Microsoft office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.). Expertise in handling web-based or data management systems is an asset;
- Fluency in English and Arabic
- Willingness to be located at the field offices
Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian relief, post-conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
